St. Clement’s Island where the first English colonists landed in 1634; St. Francis Xavier Church - oldest Catholic church from original 13 colonies; Carmelite Monastery - nation’s first convent; St. Ignatius Church - oldest active Jesuit parish in the country; St. Mary’s City - historic capital of Maryland from 1634- 1695. In Washington we will visit the Pope John Paul II Cultural Center which offers an environment in which to explore one’s own faith and learn about the role of faith in the new millennium. Enjoy ample time to explore the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception - the largest church in the America’s and the eighth largest in the world. Stroll through the lovely grounds of the Franciscan Monastery and Gardens which feature replicas of the famous shrines in the Holy Land. A guided tour of
D.C.'s memorials and monuments features the new World War II Memorial, Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial, Korean War Memorial and the Vietnam War Memorial. Enjoy a delightful train ride back from Washington D.C.
